No Mention Of THe Benefits

Nobody seems to want to mention the improvements to cognitive function, working memory, and anti-anxiolitic effects of tobacco. In some respects it is a nutritional supplement for some aspects of brain function, perhaps to be classed as a nootropic.  I am a heavy smoker and am convinced that nicotine is not the only component of the addiction, but also harmine which is similar to an maoi antidepressant.  I find that NRT products that contain liquorice oil are more effective, liquorice contains 14 different maoi's

There is little doubt that nicotine is of benefit to some, if not many, people.  People continue to use drugs of any kind because they confer some sort of advantage.  People keep smoking, or using nicotine, because it helps them in some way.  Recently I heard of someone who continues to use the patch because it relieves their sleep apnea.

But your point is a major one.  Anti-tobacco activists have removed pleasure and benefit from the debate about nicotine.  They seem to think that everyone smokes only because they can't quit.  You can't begin to think of good alternatives to smoking until you accept the fact that people actually enjoy smoking and that it gives them something that otherwise would not be there.
